BBC to cut website and close 6Music
-
Fears that the BBC would close down two of its radio stations and cut back on its website have been realised after the corporation issued its strategy review. The BBC will cut spending on its website by 25 per cent and cut back on the number of webpages on the site by up to 50 per cent, it has been announced.
The corporation has announced the cuts as part of its strategy review, though many of the details seem to correlate to those included in media reports last week when a leaked document was obtained by a daily newspaper.
Two digital-only radio stations, 6Music and the Asian Network, are also to be closed down.
The move was announced by BBC director general Mark Thompson, who has been under pressure from critics who believe that the corporation is stifling competition in many markets and costing too much money.
